Yakuza 2 is going HD in Yakuza Kiwami 2

Kiryu is back for yet another round of high-definition biffo.

Yakuza 0, the first current-gen Yakuza game to make it to Western shores, must have done extremely well for Sega. Not only is the publisher releasing an HD remaster of the first Yakuza game this very week, it just announced that 2006's Yakuza 2 will be getting the same treatment with the upcoming PS4 game Yakuza Kiwami 2.

As with the first Yakuza Kiwami, Kiwami 2 will feature revamped graphics powered by the 'Dragon Engine', the tech Sega used to develop the latest chronological entry in the series, Yakuza 6. The visuals aren't the only upgrade Yakuza 2 is getting, either, as there'll be new side quests t complete as well as the ability to play as fan-favourite Goro Majima alongside protagonist Kazuma Kiryu.

So far, Yakuza Kiwami 2 has only been confirmed for Japan, with a release date of 7 December. With its predecessor launching here in the West on 29 August, though, it's likely we'll get an announcement sooner rather than later. Considering how rough Yakuza's sibling series Shenmue is looking in the latest trailer for Shenmue III, that's real good news.
