That's a whole lot of game for your pocket change.

Subscription services have become a standard fixture in the digital landscape, whether it be the massive movie and TV library of Netflix or the exclusive deals and discounts provided by Amazon Prime. The gaming world is no stranger to membership services either, with Sony, Microsoft and even Nintendo requiring you to sign up for a premium membership in order to play games online. Thankfully, the cost is offset significantly by the inclusion of free games with your membership, scoring you a whole lot of bang for your monthly buck.

Still, paying a monthly fee just to play with your friends online can be a hard pill to swallow. Right in time for Christmas, though, Microsoft has made that pill considerably sweeter by dropping the cost of new Xbox Live Gold memberships to a measly $1. So long as you haven't signed up for the service before, that single dollar will get you a month's worth of online gaming along with exclusive discounts on games from the Microsoft Store. You'll also snag January's Games With Gold line-up, a serving of four Xbox One and Xbox 360 games, yours to play for free for as long as you maintain your subscription.

For those who've already joined the legion of Xbox Live Gold members, Microsoft has also slashed the price of its Netflix-like Xbox Games Pass service to $1. With Xbox Game Pass, you get access to a library of over 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 games you can download and play at any time without restriction. Standout titles currently available include Gears of War 4, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Sunset Overdrive and Halo 5.

Both $1 deals are limited to new subscribers, and you'll have to sign up before 4 January to take advantage of the reduced price.
