Xbox Live Games with Gold in August 2016

Alex Kidman 28 July 2016 NEWS

As Microsoft readies for the Xbox One S, it’s also offering up wrestling, warriors and classic 2D and 3D platforming adventures.

The Xbox Live Games With Gold offer provides subscribers to Microsoft’s Xbox Live service with a variety of games each month to download and keep for as long as their subscription is current. Microsoft has revealed the games you’ll be able to score if you’re a subscriber through August, and it’s quite the mixed list.

The first two games that you’ll be able to download from the 1-15 August are beloved 2D platformer Spelunky for Xbox 360 and Warriors Orochi Ultimate for Xbox One. Thanks to the wonders of backwards compatibility, Spelunky is also playable on Xbox One. No sneaky "forwards compatibility" for Warriors if you’re only an Xbox 360 owner, however.

Mid month, it’s time to break out either your snappiest spandex or your finest pig suit, depending on your tastes. For the Xbox 360 (and again with backwards compatibility) is the HD remaster of Ubisoft’s Beyond Good & Evil, while Xbox One owners can also live out the finest in sports entertainment with WWE 2K16. Your window to grab those games is variable, however. Beyond Good & Evil HD will be available from 16 August through to 31 August, while WWE 2K16 will be available from 16 August through to 15 September.

The introduction of new titles also means that the timeframe for grabbing July’s games is rapidly shrinking. If you haven’t grabbed Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (Xbox 360) or The Crew (Xbox One) you’re already out of luck. You’ve got just a couple of days to snaffle up The Banner Saga 2 (Xbox One) or Tron: Evolution (Xbox 360), both of which vanish from Games With Gold on 31 July. Puzzle game Tumblestone (Xbox One) will remain available until 15 August.
