8 X-Men movies dated for Disney+
Disney+ has just revealed a sleigh-load of new release movies and TV shows for December, including eight films from the X-Men series.
If you were twiddling your thumbs on whether or not to sign-up to the Disney+ streaming service, this could push you over the edge. Or at the very least convince you to try out the 7-day free trial. Not content with its 819-title strong launch line-up, Disney is bringing a further 12 movies, 4 specials and hundreds of TV episodes to Disney+ in December.
You can check out the full December Disney+ calendar here.
A particular highlight is a December 20 date for 8 of the films in the X-Men series. It's a show of strength for the Mouse House, given it already has almost the entire roster of Marvel Films on the service. (Let alone Star Wars, Pixar, Disney, The Simpsons and National Geographic). Disney+ fans have plenty more superhero entertainment on the way.
It's undies on the outside time! And a perfect arrival for those seeking Christmas entertainment, too.
Which X-Men movies are coming to Disney+?
On December 20, the following X-Men series films will arrive on Disney+. They will not be staggered, but will all be available at the same time. Thus, allowing you to conduct an X-Men binge during the silly season. Here are the eight Disney+ X-Men films.
List of X-Men movies coming to Disney+
- X-MEN (2000)
- X2 (2003)
- X-MEN: The Last Stand (2006)
- X-MEN Origins: Wolverine (2009)
- X-MEN: First Class (2011)
- The Wolverine (2013)
- X-MEN: Days of Future Past (2014)
- X-MEN Apocalypse (2016)
Which X-Men films are not available on Disney+?
There are some notable omissions from the list of X-Men movies coming to Disney+. Not including the announced 2020 X-Men title The New Mutants, there are 4 movies that haven't made the cut.
The most obvious is the critically acclaimed 2017 film Logan. However, given it's a hard R18+ that is not a surprise. Disney has been clear it wants Disney+ to be family-friendly, and while X-Men overall teeters on the edge of darkness, Logan is black as night.
The most recent film, 2019's Dark Phoenix, is also absent. Again, this is not a major surprise as it is likely locked away on an alternative service until the licensing agreement ends.
Technically both Deadpool films are also part of the X-Men universe. However, they suffer from the same demographic issues as Logan.
List of X-Men movies not coming to Disney+
- Deadpool (2016)
- Logan (2017)
- Deadpool 2 (2018)
- Dark Phoenix (2019)
- The New Mutants (2020)
What does this mean for X-Men on Netflix, Stan, Foxtel and company?
The bad news for those of you with other streaming services in Australia is that X-Men is no longer going to be available. So, watch what you can now or consider making the switch to Disney+.
