Which has lower fees?

WorldFirst

WorldFirst does not charge any fees for international money transfers. However, in some cases, the receiving bank may impose a fee.

Moneycorp

A flat fee applies to one-off transfers with Moneycorp. This fee is £5 for regular payments and £9 for express payments.

Winner: WorldFirst

You can't beat fee-free transfers, so WorldFirst is the winner here. However, this doesn't necessarily mean it offers cheaper transfers than Moneycorp, as you'll also need to consider the exchange rate when calculating the total cost of your transaction.

Which offers better exchange rates?

WorldFirst

The exchange rate offered by WorldFirst will vary depending on the currency you send. WorldFirst typically imposes a margin of between 0.5% and 1% on top of the mid-market rate. For example, let's say you want to send money to the USA:

  • If the mid-market rate is 1 AUD = 0.716352 USD
  • WorldFirst's rate might be 1 AUD = 0.71252 USD

Moneycorp

Moneycorp claims to offer bank-beating exchange rates that are calculated based on the following factors:

  • The current mid-market (or interbank) rate
  • The amount you send
  • The currency you send

However, current customer exchange rates are not listed on the Moneycorp website.

Winner: WorldFirst

WorldFirst offers competitive margins of 0.5-1%. While you need to sign up for an account to check the latest rates, WorldFirst is also more transparent than Moneycorp about the rates it offers.

Which is faster?

WorldFirst

The time it takes for your transfer to arrive in your recipient's bank account varies based on three factors:

  • The currency you send
  • The amount you send
  • Your bank

If you're sending AUD to a major currency, such as USD, GBP or EUR, your transaction can be completed on the same day. However, you'll need to allow 1-4 working days for transfers to other currencies.

Moneycorp

Once Moneycorp has received your payment for the transaction, standard transfers are completed within 2-4 business days, and express transfers take 2 business days or fewer. However, it's also worth noting that because Moneycorp is based in the UK, you'll need to send funds to the provider via a SWIFT payment, which can take up to 3 business days.

Winner: WorldFirst

While processing times vary, WorldFirst's same-day transfers to major currencies see it come out on top in this category.
