World of Tanks gets into the World Cup mood with its own take on The Great Game

Matt Sayer 18 June 2018 NEWS

If you thought Rocket League was cool, just wait until you try Tank Football.

Football fans are in their element at the moment thanks to last week's kick-off of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Slide tackles, scissor kicks and wicked headers are sure to inspire plenty of raucous cheering, but you know what would make The Great Game even greater?

Tanks.

At least that's the reasoning behind the latest limited-time event hitting the PC version of the massive multiplayer game World of Tanks this week. Dubbed Tank Football, the popular mode is bringing back its 3v3 soccer-but-with-tanks gameplay for a second World Cup, and this time it's adding even more depth for tankers who like to hit the back of the net.

In light of the recent addition of Italian tanks to the game, this year's edition of Tank Football features professional Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon providing commentary and support for players as they tear across the pitch. Not only that, this time around, each tank on a team will fill a specific role, with access to unique powers designed to complement those of their teammates.

To top it off, there'll be new battle missions with special rewards available during the run of Tank Football as well as in-game tournaments bolstered by grand prizes signed by Gianluigi Buffon himself. Like always, the whole event is free, just like World of Tanks, so there's little reason not to jump in and get blasting those balls.

While Tank Football isn't coming to PS4 or Xbox One just yet, console tankers will soon be able to enjoy the new Mercenaries expansion releasing for the game later this month.
