WBBL Season 03: Everything you need to know!

Big bash 3 large

The big hits and close calls of a third Woman’s Big Bash season is upon us, but can the Sydney Sixes win the title again?

The Women’s Big Bash T20 League is huge. With 59 games unfolding in just 57 days, the race to the title is fast and furious. The women will play a minimum of 23 games more than the men, and up to 26 depending on how deep they go into the final series. Remarkably, the Season 2 final ended up showcasing the same two teams as the Big Bash men’s final - the Sydney Sixers against the Perth Scorchers. However, the result was reversed, with the Sydney Sixes getting the win after the Perth Scorchers took it right to the last ball, falling agonisingly short by seven runs.

Who will win the Women’s Big Bash League in Season 03? Finder.com.au will be keeping a very close eye on proceedings, given we are sponsoring the T20 coverage. We’ll be updating this page after ever round with insightful data about the performances of every team, so make sure you check back regularly.

How does the Women’s Big Bash differ from the Men’s Big Bash?

The Women’s Big Bash League is semi-professional and tends to be played more frequently in suburban ovals. This makes it more accessible for T20 fans who want to watch the game live, or otherwise they can tune in on Channel 10 or to the live streams to ensure they don’t miss out on the action.

You’ll also notice that the Women’s Big Bash League puts more focus on double or even triple headers for a tonne of entertainment value on one night. Plus the WBBL also focuses more on rivalries, allowing two teams to face off against each in subsequent games.

Season 03 of the WBBL is shaking up the way T20 teams are being put together, too. The squad lists were effectively wiped clean, with players now able to sign multi-year contracts for the first time. To make sure the competition stays balanced, a squad of 15 players is restricted to five marquee players. These individuals are defined as Australian players who have represented the national team – the Southern Stars – more than 10 times since April 24, 2014, or international players.

With no shortage of close games and big sixes in Season 02, we’re expecting plenty of entertainment in Season 03 of the WBBL. Here are the WBBL fixtures and squad lists for Season 03.
