Australian state Charity

The average Australian gives $302 a year to good causes.

Australians are relatively generous with charities. The average Australian gave $302 over the year to September 2015, according to new Roy Morgan data.

Just under two-thirds (66%) of us give to charity at least once a year. That might be in part because donations to charity are often tax-deductible.

That amount does differ between states, however. Check out the infographic below to see which state is the most generous.

It seems Australians are becoming a little less generous over time. When Roy Morgan conducted similar research in 2011, 70% of us donated to charities. This year's results were based on a survey of 15,668 people.
