One of the most highly-anticipated shows of 2019, Netflix's The Witcher has a very strong appeal among book and gaming enthusiasts. The fantasy series launched in late December 2019. The Witcher is based on the book series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, which also inspired a popular series of video games.

The story revolves around Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter (or Witcher) with supernatural powers. He struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove to be more dangerous than beasts and generally leads a fairly solitary life. However, destiny brings Geralt closer to a powerful sorceress and a young princess, with the three banding together to navigate a world full of magic and monsters.

Geralt is played by Henry Cavill, Superman himself. You might know him from the DC Universe, where he portrayed the iconic superhero in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. Or from other movies like Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Stardust, Blood Creek, or The Man from U.N.C.L.E. On the TV front, he played Charles Brandon on The Tudors.

The Witcher season 2 details

After a long wait, The Witcher returns with season 2, which drops on Netflix on 17 December, 2021. All 8 episodes will be available at once.

The show's sophomore season will reportedly cover Andrzej Sapkowski's second novel, Blood of Elves, and the beginning of the third novel, Time of Contempt. Some short stories which weren't adapted for season 1 will likely make it to the screen as well.

Last time we saw them, Geralt and Ciri finally met in the woods, while Yennefer had a rough time during the Battle of Sodden. Per the official synopsis, Geralt is sure that Yennefer is dead, so he brings Ciri to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen to keep her safe. As the Continent's kings and creatures fight for supremacy, he tries to protect the young girl from the power she possesses inside.

The Witcher has already been renewed for season 3, so there will be more epic adventures coming our way in the future. Until then, catch up with the trio as they continue to make their way through this harsh world.
