  • Season 1
In a time of reboots, sequels and remakes it's refreshing to see one of them actually live up to the hype. That seems to be the case for Star Trek: Picard, a new story set in the Star Trek universe, which marks the return of the iconic Captain Jean-Luc Picard to the silver screen.

The new series has been gaining praise from both fans and critics, who applaud its willingness to boast a different tone from the average Star Trek property while still keeping all the elements that made the franchise such a big hit. But is this new show right for you? Let's figure it out.

Star Trek: Picard is set at the end of the 24th century, years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis, the last time we saw the beloved Starfleet captain turned admiral turned winemaker.

Now, Picard is retired on the family vineyard in France with his dog, Number One, but he is still haunted by Commander Data's death. When he is sought out by a young woman, he realises they share a connection rooted deep into his past.

While the new series follows Star Trek: Nemesis, chronologically speaking, it also acknowledges the events of 2009's Star Trek, with the destruction of Romulus a big part of the new show's premise.

Star Trek: Picard season 2 details

The success of Star Trek: Picard saw the show renewed for 2 more instalments, with season 2 scheduled to arrive in February 2022.

"The only way to heal our future is to go back and repair the past," Picard says in the trailer. So, yes: this time around, the captain and his crew are heading to the past – more exactly the 21st century. The stakes seem to be incredibly high. Time has been broken and our heroes have only 3 days to fix it.

On the casting front, the main players will be back for season 2. Notable guest appearances include Annie Wersching as the Borg Queen, Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan and John de Lancie as Q.
