He shouldn't have been there. But in the moment that Michael Sullivan's son witnesses a brutal slaying, the lives of this 12-year-old and his gangster father are shattered irrevocably and their destinies forever joined. Now, targeted by the mob to which he's devoted his life, Sullivan and his son find themselves with nowhere to turn, and a sadistic killer in relentless pursuit. It's here in a fierce and primal struggle to stay alive and protect his boy, that this lifelong gangster will discover honour and redemption. Riveting, powerful and visually stunning, Road to Perdition ranks among the classic gangster movies of all time. Tom Hanks, Paul Newman and Jude Law are unforgettable as desperate men with everything at stake. Academy Award-winning director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, 1999) brings his haunting vision to a hard-edged story of lost innocence, conflicted loyalty and bloodthirsty ambition.

Cast and crew

  • Tom Hanks
  • Tyler Hoechlin
  • Rob Maxey
Set in the 30s, Road to Perdition centres on Mike, an enforcer for powerful Depression-era Midwestern mobster John Rooney. However, Rooney's son Connor is jealous of the close bond they share.

So when Mike's eldest son witnesses a hit, Connor uses the incident as an excuse to upend the enforcer's life. Forced to flee, Mike and his son set out on a journey of revenge and self-discovery.

With stunning cinematography and a terrific cast, Road to Perdition is a must-watch for fans of gangster films. Even better, it manages to be quite moving without sacrificing any of the familiar violence the genre is known for.
