Synopsis

An up-and-coming young lawyer sues his former employer for wrongful termination after he suspects his dismissal from his prestigious job may have been due to him contracting AIDS.

Cast and crew

  • Tom Hanks
  • Denzel Washington
  • Roberta Maxwell
Fearing it would compromise his career, lawyer Andrew Beckett hides his homosexuality and HIV status at his powerful Philadelphia law firm. However, his secret is eventually exposed and he is fired shortly afterwards. As a result, Beckett sues for discrimination, teaming up with a homophobic lawyer, the only one willing to help him take on his old firm.

Moving and heartfelt, Philadelphia is a powerful movie about tolerance and discrimination. It also features terrific performances from everyone involved, so there's a good chance you'll be glued to the screen.
