It's the most wonderful time of the year, especially on Kashyyyk. With Life Day just around the corner, Star Wars fans will be treated to a new holiday special event with a LEGO twist.
Inspired by 1978's infamous made-for-TV movie Star Wars Holiday Special, the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will journey back to Chewbacca's homeworld and reunite Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, Rose and all your favourite droids, from R2-D2 to BB-8.
Here's everything you need to know to tune in.
When is the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special available in Australia?
The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will debut on 17 November 2020, also known as Life Day in the Star Wars universe.
A longstanding Wookiee tradition, Life Day celebrates the values and tenets of Wookiee culture, including family, joy and harmony.
How can I watch the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special?
The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will be exclusively available to stream on Disney+ in Australia. The platform offers content not only from Star Wars and Disney itself, but also Marvel, National Geographic and Pixar.
If you haven't seen the original Star Wars Holiday Special, the main storyline was set on the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk. Chewbacca and Han Solo visit the planet to celebrate Life Day with Chewbacca's family – his wife Malla, his son Lumpy and his father Itchy. The event features musical numbers and other variety-show acts, with special appearances from 70s icons like Jefferson Starship and Bea Arthur.
As for the new LEGO version, it's set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and uses LEGO figurines to tell the story. According to the official synopsis, Rey leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day and embarks on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force.
However, at a mysterious Jedi temple, Rey finds herself hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through well-known moments in Star Wars cinematic history. As a result, she comes into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and other heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films.
According to executive producer Josh Rimes, the 45-minute special was inspired by popular holiday movies like It's a Wonderful Life, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Christmas Vacation. It will also feature a few Star Wars movie actors reprising their roles. All in all, it sounds like a must-watch treat for franchise enthusiasts.
