After more than a decade of rumours, it's confirmed: Friends is back… sort of. The cast of the beloved sitcom reunited earlier in 2021 for a TV special that aired on 27 May 2021.

The six actors reminisce about their experience with the series and the iconic legacy they left behind following the 10 years they spent on the air. They are joined by an impressive list of special guests – including pop culture icons, Friends guest stars and more.

An HBO Max original, Friends: The Reunion airs in Australia at the same time as in the US. Based on the trailer, it looks like an emotional affair, so we strongly advise you to keep a box of tissues handy as you press Play.

How to watch Friends: The Reunion in Australia

The easiest way to watch Friends: The Reunion in Australia is with streaming service BINGE. The service offers a [product_link id="fae9c5d3-726b-413f-96de-3fde7932c39e" title="14-day free trial" site = "AUFTV-NEW" origin="straightforward-niche"], so you can sign up and enjoy the TV special for free.

Once your trial is up, subscriptions to BINGE start from only $10 a month. However, if you'd like to watch from more than one device and in HD then you'll need to opt for the $14 or $18 monthly subscription.

The platform offers a wide and varied library of TV shows and movies, reality TV, documentaries and kids' content. Recent highlights include Superman & Lois, The Nevers and Mare of Easttown.

If you have a Foxtel pay TV subscription, you can catch Friends: The Reunion on FOX8 on Thursday from the same time, 5:02pm AEST, or watch on demand.

Alternatively, you can stream the special with Foxtel Now. FOX8 is part of the basic Essentials pack, which costs $25 a month. New subscribers get a [product_link id="0fb7bc30-6f2d-4267-9bf3-495b825408e1" title="10-day free trial" site="AUFTV-NEW" origin="straightforward-niche"].

The three services are the only way to watch HBO Max in Australia. Despite every season of Friends being available on Netflix in Australia, the streaming giant will not have the reunion special. You can compare BINGE against both Foxtel products here.

How long does Friends: The Reunion go for?

According to Foxtel's TV guide the reunion special will run from 5:02pm to 6:42pm. So at 1 hour and 40 minutes, right in the middle of dinner time, maybe some Uber Eats will be on the cards.

Friends: The Reunion preview

The TV special will see Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer return to the comedy's original soundstage for a real-life unscripted celebration of the long-running series.

Based on the trailer, the main cast will revisit the sets of Friends, re-enact table reads and do fun bits that pay homage to landmark episodes of the series. They'll also talk about filming the sitcom and the impact Friends had on their lives.

We also know that there will be some form of trivia. So we suggest rewatching these scenes in preparation.

Just because it's unscripted, doesn't mean the guest list hasn't been carefully curated to cater to the show's loyal fanbase.

Besides the main cast, expect to see other familiar faces pop up: including Maggie Wheeler, who played Janice; Tom Selleck, who portrayed Monica's boyfriend Richard, James Michael Tyler, who you might know as Gunther; and Reese Witherspoon, who appeared on Friends as Rachel's sister Jill.

Plus, celebrity guests include Kit Harington, Lady Gaga, David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden and Cindy Crawford.

As for the celebrity guests, we're guessing they'll speak about the influence of the show? Not a lot of information has been released about that, but we're sure there will be plenty of surprises. We're looking forward to seeing the six Friends back together, so we'll take whatever we can get.
