Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Year released

Biography, crime, drama

Butch and Sundance are the two leaders of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang. Butch is all ideas, Sundance is all action and skill. The west is becoming civilised, so when Butch and Sundance rob a train once too often, a special posse begins trailing them no matter where they run. Over rocks, through towns, across rivers, the group is always just behind them. When they finally escape through sheer luck, Butch has another idea, "Let's go to Bolivia".

Cast and crew

  • Paul Newman
  • Robert Redford
  • Katharine Ross
Set in the early 1900s, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid follows the two legendary outlaws in the aftermath of a train robbery gone wrong. As they find themselves on the run, they land on the perfect solution: escape to Bolivia for a new lease on life.

The movie is loosely based on true events, but we doubt you'll tune in for the history lesson. Instead, expect a gripping (and occasionally funny) tale of robberies, torrid love affairs and expertly timed gun draws. If you're looking for escapism, it rarely gets better than this.
