Anastasia (1997)

Anastasia (1997)

Year released

Animation, adventure, drama

The last surviving child of the Russian Royal Family joins two con men to reunite with her grandmother, the Dowager Empress, while the undead Rasputin seeks her death.

Cast and crew

  • Meg Ryan
  • John Cusack
  • Christopher Lloyd
The evil wizard Rasputin puts a hex on the royal Romanovs and young Anastasia disappears. Years later, the Grand Duchess offers a hefty reward for Anastasia's return.

Hoping to score the big prize, two scheming Russians find an orphan girl with a remarkable resemblance to the missing princess, whom they bring to Paris. What they don't know? She's the real Anastasia after all.

Boasting a wonderful cast and haunting songs, Anastasia is an entertaining and beautiful film. A retelling of the mystery surrounding Russian Tsar Nicholas II's daughter, the movie is in no way based on historical events, but that doesn't make it any less compelling.
