Biography, drama, sport

In 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball in the modern era when he was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers. He faced considerable racism in the process.

Cast and crew

  • Chadwick Boseman
  • T.R. Knight
  • Harrison Ford
An inspirational sports movie, 42 tells the story of two men: the great Jackie Robinson and legendary Brooklyn Dodgers GM Branch Rickey, whose brave stand against prejudice forever changed the game of baseball.

The story kicks off in 1946, when Rickey signs Robinson to the team, breaking Major League Baseball's infamous colour line. As a result, the two have to endure serious backlash from the public, the press and even other players, with Robinson in particular facing racism on every side. All he can do is let his talent do all the talking.

Starring Harrison Ford and Chadwick Boseman, 42 is earnest and moving. It also does a great job at explaining exactly why Robinson became an enduring American hero. Whether or not you're a baseball fan, you'll find plenty to love here.
