Most of the details around Amazon's launch into Australia are shrouded in mystery, but there are a few things we do know.

Update: Amazon Australia Market place is launching this Thursday. Read more here.

There are still only a few confirmed details about Amazon's launch in Australia. Here at finder.com.au, we've managed to piece a few together ourselves, such as the product categories that we'll see at launch as well as the fact that Amazon will launch AmazonBasics in Australia.

But there are still so many questions around the official launch date of Amazon – and lots of swirling rumours! We've heard and read about a lot of different potential launch dates, so here's what we know so far about when the launch will be.

Amazon will arrive before Christmas

Although many speculated that Amazon would head to Australia in 2018, we are very confident that Amazon will arrive this year. Citi predicted that Amazon would be in Australia by October and while that didn't happen, a pre-Christmas launch has become a certainty. An exclusive report from The Sydney Morning Herald revealed that Amazon executives flew into Australia early in November and are currently working on a stack of secret fashion projects. Having spoken to key spokespeople from Amazon, the report officially confirmed that Amazon will launch in Australia prior to Christmas.

Black Friday, 24 November is the best guess

Given that Amazon will be here before Christmas, it would make sense from a business perspective to launch when people are shopping for Christmas. Launching a few days before Christmas simply wouldn't have the same impact, so it's fair that we can expect to see Amazon arrive in Australia prior to mid-December.

In that time, there is one key date that stands out among the rest – Black Friday. Apart from being one of the biggest sale events in the world, Black Friday is a particularly big day for Amazon's other markets, such as the US and the UK. In 2016 (and this year too), Amazon.com turned Black Friday into a whole week of deals across every major category with savings of up to 70% off. Amazon generally likes to make a big deal out of Black Friday.

So it would make sense that Amazon would pick this particular date to make a splash into the Australian market. In addition, there is already a huge spotlight on Black Friday and loads of Aussies will be online searching for sales and deals. So this makes sense from a hype perspective too.

Here at finder.com.au, we're putting our money on a 24 November launch – which is this Friday. But we also know that Amazon likes to keep people guessing and could have a completely different launch date in mind altogether. We've read other publications that suggest a 30 November launch is coming and others have said 1 December. So those are the next best guesses if 24 November doesn't pan out.

Given this is such a huge launch, it's amazing that none of the big details have been leaked. All that we know is that we will see Amazon here in Australia before Christmas. Other than that, Amazon is still keeping its cards close to its chest.
