Your bundle of joy is almost here, so get everything ready in advance!

Pregnancy can have its ups and downs – mood swings, food cravings, the list goes on!

The lead up to your baby’s birth can be a pretty stressful period, and you want to make sure you’re absolutely prepared for when your baby arrives into the world.

Here at Finder, we've put together a list of the top five things you need to have before your baby is born. It will make your life a lot easier and mean you can spend more time with your little bub.

1. Nappies

Here’s the thing: everyone tells you that you’ll go through a lot of nappies. But listen carefully, because you will always, always need more. Babies are notorious for going through packs upon packs of nappies, and if it’s your firstborn, you’ll also go through a fair few nappies as you learn the best way to put them on – trial and error is a very real thing.

Buy them in bulk, and buy them early so that you’re completely prepared. You may even get gifted some by some knowing parents at your baby shower because they know just how necessary they really are.

You can purchase nappies from Amazon Australia, Priceline, Chemist Warehouse and more!

2. Car seat

Getting your baby home safe from the hospital requires one vital thing: a safe, secure car seat. This is definitely not something you want to leave to the last minute because it’s a big decision. Shop around, compare safety regulations and listen to the advice of parents you trust because this car seat is responsible for your child’s safety – and that’s priceless.

Bear in mind that the car seat is an investment and should last you a fair while, so you can definitely justify spending a little bit extra in the interest of safety and longevity.

Check out places like David Jones for your car seat needs.

3. Bassinet

If there’s one thing babies do a lot of, it’s sleeping. In fact, that’s pretty much all they’ll do for a while at least. So you really want to make sure that they’re safe and comfortable in a bassinet that’s the right size for them. Pair the bassinet with some soft, high-quality bassinet linens and your baby will sleep like… well, a baby!

It may seem counterproductive to spend big on a bassinet that your baby is just going to grow out of, but if you choose the right one, it should last you a fair while – besides, you never know if more kids are in your future!

Our top recommended places to get a good bassinet are Pottery Barn Kids and David Jones.

4. Breast pads

Unless you want to resort to wearing layers upon layers of clothing, you’re going to want to invest in some breast pads. Breastfeeding is a beautiful process, but what they don’t always tell you is that your milk can start production at any given moment.

Breast pads work to prevent milk leakage if you start lactating at an inconvenient time. They’re small circles of fabric that you simply pop inside your bra to absorb any liquid so you avoid any awkward dampness seeping through your clothes.

Priceline, Amazon Australia and Chemist Warehouse have you covered - literally!

5. Wipes

Everything is going to seem dirty. Everything. From your countertops to your baby themselves, wipes are about to be your favourite thing in the world to help you clean things. It seems a small thing, but when you’re taking care of a newborn, it’s tricky to keep things clean already.

Wipes take the stress out of cleaning, and with disposable products, you can just clean and forget about them – it’s easy and takes seconds to bring a room up from messy to presentable.

Wipes of all kinds can be found at Priceline and Chemist Warehouse.
