While it’s common to have credit cards that accumulate points for airline miles and hotel rooms, this innovative card helps you directly save for a GM vehicle. The Westpac GM Holden Card allows customers to save 10% of all their purchases to be used towards a new or leased GM vehicle. Depending on the model you are interested in, the savings can be up to $3,000. This is used as a rebate towards the purchase of the vehicle and is in addition to any other negotiated savings the dealership offers.

What happened to all my reward points from my GM Holden Card ?

      Hi Paul,

Thank for your question. Please note though that you’ve come through to finder.com.au – a comparison website, not actually Westpac.

Just to confirm, for how long you were not able to use your points with your GM Holden Card? As this card was no longer offered by Westpac, the rebate program attached to the GM Holden card also expired and was actually announced by Westpac that the expiry was in October of last year.

Westpac has also announced that cardholders will be able to continue using the card as normal until they will close the program for the GM Holden card on 31 October 2016.

The GM Holden card, meantime, will be replaced by an Altitude Platinum Visa card and you should be able to receive your replacement Altitude Platinum Visa card in August 2016.

So it would be best to contact Westpac directly if you have further concerns about the points you have earned on your GM Holden card.

can I still claim this from a purchase in 2010

      Hi Louise,

      Thanks for your question.

It doesn’t say anywhere in the terms and conditions or the official website that this card does have Extended Warranty Insurance.

You may want to contact Westpac to confirm this.

      Hi Michael.

According to the Westpac Holden Rebate terms and conditions you can transfer points to a family member, you will have to call their customer service centre to arrange this. Although this product has been discontinued, any points that have been earnt before the cut off date (2010) will be valid for five years.

The terms and conditions say this: ‘In order to transfer your GM Holden Card Rebate, please contact The GM Holden Card Customer Service Call Centre on 131 200 prior to the vehicle purchase. The GM Holden Card Customer Service Call Centre will then explain the transfer procedure.’

You’ll have to do this during business hours.

      Thanks for your question.

Just wondering if you can claim the rebate after the car has been purchased? I bought a Captiva 2 weeks ago not realising that my Dad had a GM card with a rebate.

Hi Georgie. Thanks for your question. According to the Westpac Holden GM Rebate terms and conditions, ‘The GM Holden Card Rebate Program was closed on 8 October 2010. From 9 October 2010, any new spend on a GM Holden Card will no longer earn a GM Holden Card Rebate.’ I hope this helps. Jacob.

Hi Judy. Yes, you can do this. The terms and conditions state, ‘your GM Holden Card Rebate may be transferred by the GM Holden Cardholder to the following family members of either the GM Holden Cardholder or the Additional Cardholder: parents, grandparents, spouse or de facto spouse (including a spouse or de facto spouse of the same gender), siblings, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Proof of relationship must be provided upon request. In order to transfer your GM Holden Card Rebate, please contact The GM Holden Card Customer Service Call Centre.’ I’ve sent more information to your email. Jacob.

I had a Westpac Holden Card until 11th July 2007. Just prior to that I bought a Holden Barina and obtained a $3000 rebate, leaving a balance of $1434 rebate on the card.
I’m now going to buy a replacement Barina for my wife’s 70th birthday and wish to know if the residual rebate amount — to a max of $500 — can be used.
As you know, I can’t take out a new card, which I would do otherwise.

      Hello Robert,
      thanks for the question!

According to the Westpac site it states: ‘From 9th October 2010, any new spend on a GM Holden Card will no longer earn a GM Holden Card Rebate. However, any rebates already earned remain valid for up to 5 years from the date they were earned.’ So to answer your question unfortunately if the rebate you earned occurred in 2007, this would mean the rebate would no longer be valid as this is greater than 5 years.

It may be helpful to call Westpac directly for more information, and I hope your wife enjoys her new car!

      I hope this helps,

Is it just the card holder who can redeem points or can the points be given to family or friends when purchasing a new holden?

Hi Krys. Thanks for your question. According to the terms and conditions, ‘Your GM Holden Card Rebate may be redeemed by you or by any Additional Cardholder with your consent.’ More information has been sent to your email. Sorry for the delay. Jacob.

HI Erik. Thanks for your question. This card has been discontinued, so if you would like to cancel the card, make sure that you have paid the account in full – once you’ve settled your debt – you’re free to cancel the account at any time. Sorry it’s taken to reply to this. Jacob.
