Westpac customers can now use iMessage to send money
Westpac is the first bank in Australia to enable payments via an iMessage shortcut.
Sending and transferring money is about to get a whole lot easier thanks to Westpac for iMessage. In a first for Australian banking, Westpac customers can use a shortcut to access their online banking services while texting with their iPhone.
If you’re a customer, you can just click on the new Westpac logo in the iMessage window to make payments, generate a cardless cash code or share your BSB and account details without leaving your text message. When you click the icon, you’ll be asked to sign in with a password, select a payee from your contact list and then enter a dollar amount and description. You can then confirm the payment and send a text to the payee detailing the transfer.
This will make it much easier when you’re chasing up money for those concert tickets or splitting a restaurant bill with a mate.
Westpac’s chief executive of consumer banking George Frazis said Westpac invested in the technology as it's committed to giving customers a convenient and seamless banking service.
“Our customers want a swift, secure banking experience that fits with their lifestyle and we are always exploring ways to enhance our services. It makes sense to pair texting and banking together. These services are an everyday part of Australians’ lives,” said Frazis.
An extension of the Westpac Mobile Banking App, customers can take advantage of this new payment technology if they have iMessage enabled on an iPhone with iOS11 and the latest version of the banking app.
Although this is an exciting Australian first for payments, it’s been a big week for innovation with Westpac. Yesterday, the bank also launched Westpac Banking Skill, which allows customers to access their account balance, spending history and points status with Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa.
