Wild Wests: Tales from Tiger Town – How to watch the Wests Tigers documentary
The Wests Tigers NRL team has become the focus of a 4-part sports documentary and here's how you can watch it.
Sports documentaries have become all the rage in recent years. The ever-influential Michael Jordan didn't start the craze, but he certainly took it mainstream with the brilliant The Last Dance. It's on Netflix along with sublimely shot Formula 1 series Drive to Survive.
Over on Amazon Prime, you've got a cricket lover's dream with The Test, Making Their Mark as well as Australian swimming deep dive Head Above Water. Then there is Tiger on BINGE, which breaks down the incredible life of titular golfing great Tiger Woods.
Now Fox Sports is getting in on the act. Rugby league fans have an unmissable viewing experience in Wild Wests: Tales from Tiger Town. But what's this NRL special about? Why is it so intriguing? And where can you watch it?

What is Wild Wests: Tales from Tiger Town about?
Like the best sports documentaries of recent years, Wild Wests: Tales from Tiger Town is a warts and all, fly on the wall dive into an NRL team's inner sanctuary – in this case, the Wests Tigers.
An original Fox Sports production, the broadcaster's cameras have been following the Tigers since the start of 2021 and will continue to shoot through to the closing rounds of the regular season.
Of all the clubs available, the Wests Tigers is a spectacular choice and sure to deliver essential viewing. The product of an uncomfortable merger between two feuding halves – the Wests Magpies and the Balmain Tigers – the Wests Tigers have spent years imploding in the office and on the field. Despite a wealth of talent, the Tigers have failed to make the finals for a decade.
In 2021, it's looking like a case of close but not close enough once again. Following the Origin period, the club heads into the home stretch 1 win out of the 8 and with poor for-and-against.
"This documentary is not stage managed. Our cameras have been left to roll, and in doing so, we have captured some of the most raw, private and inner sanctum insights that occur inside a professional sporting club. The viewer will get an unrivalled look into the dynamics of key relationships, the preparation that goes into an 80-minute game of football and the inner workings of a club striving to regain their place at the top of the code's most competitive league, making it a must watch for any sporting fan."”
At the helm is coach Michael Maguire, a premiership winner with South Sydney in 2014 who was then shown the door after his renowned approach to hard work and fitness rubbed players the wrong way. Under his command, a roster filled with talented outcasts struggling to walk to a united vision. A fact never more evident than at the game to celebrate the death of club legend Tommy Raudonikis, where the team were smashed and booed by fans.
With so much turmoil and fan expectation, and such a tentative place on the NRL ladder, every moment is make or break. And we get to see exactly how that's unfolding, or unravelling as the case may be, in this Wests Tigers documentary.
When does Wild Wests: Tales from Tiger Town start?
Fox Sports is taking an unusual approach to the release of the Wests Tigers documentary. It's being slowly released as the season unfolds. Here is when the 4 episodes will air:
- Episode 1: 19 July 2021, 7:30pm (AEST)
- Episode 2: 9 August 2021, 7:30pm (AEST)
- Episode 3: 16 August 2021, 7:30pm (AEST)
- Episode 4: 30 August 2021, 7:30pm (AEST)
It's interesting because the players, coach and staff of the Wests Tigers will know how they appear in the documentary and how it is received by fans before the final episodes are shot. Will this impact its conclusion?
"While this season to date has been disappointing on the field for all involved with our club, we were always firmly committed to providing our members and fans with unprecedented access into the workings of the club – win, lose or draw. From the boardroom to the locker room, we're proud to open the door to Wests Tigers and show our members and fans, as well as the sporting community as a whole, what it means to be part of this great club."”
