UFC 294 Makhachev vs Volkanovski 2 fight preview

This is the fight UFC fans have been waiting to see.

With Charles Oliveira going down with an injury just 11 days out, Volkanovski stepped up to take the fight.

Already regarded as one of the best fighters on the UFC roster, Volkanovski has confirmed his toughness by taking the bout without a proper training camp.

If he was to take out the current lightweight champion, the Australian Volkanovski will become just the 5th fighter in UFC history to simultaneously hold 2 belts in different weight classes.

They stay styles make fights and we have a classic example of this.

In the first fight we had the slugger in Volkanovski arguably winning the stand up game, only to be constantly taken down to the mat.

With his effective, old school boxing skills of cross to the body, hook to the head, Volkanovski had some success.

We expect him to try this again.

But when the fight went to the ground, he struggled and Makhachev was able to take him 4 times in the fight.

Once again look for Makhachev to try and employ his superior ground game.

While we would like to see the Australian leave the cage with 2 titles, we think taking a fight on just 11 days notice might be too much of an obstacle to overcome.

Volkanovski might've said he is ready to go, but his cardio might not last the late rounds in this epic encounter.
