Australia's great boxing hope Tim Tszyu (17-0, 13 KO) could earn a shot at Argentine WBO Super Welterweight champion Brian Castano if he gets past Dennis Hogan (28-3-1) in Newcastle.

Hogan is fighting to save his career after losing two tilts at a world title in his past two fights. Another defeat would likely spell curtains for the tough Brisbane-based Irishman.

A strong undercard features former world champion and Newcastle local Sakio Bika (34-7-3), as well as the undefeated Paul Fleming (26-0-1).

Who will win Tim Tszyu vs Dennis Hogan?

Tim Tszyu vs Dennis Hogan

The bookies have pegged Hogan as a $7 outsider in some markets but he won't be a pushover for Tszyu, who is a short-priced favourite. Hogan is vastly more experienced and has fought at a much higher level than the young Australian. "The WBC rankings have me ahead of him," Hogan pointed out in the fight build-up.

Hogan has taken on some top-class boxers, including a controversial loss to Jaime Munguia in April 2019 when he cruelly missed out on becoming the WBO's junior middleweight champion. He could be a little rusty, with his last fight back in December 2019 when he lost by TKO to American Jermall Charlo.

Tszyu is coming off a ruthless first-round knockout of Bowyn Morgan in December last year that lasted less than 90 seconds. We believe Tszyu's speed and power puts him a class above Hogan. It appears nothing is going to stop the son of boxing royalty Kostya Tszyu from earning his shot at a world title. We'll opt for a Tszyu KO in the 10th round.
