Arguably Australian sports greatest rivalry will be renewed as the 2022 NRL State of Origin series kicks off.

SUMMARY: State of Origin is exclusively live to Channel 9 and 9Now. You can stream for free just by signing up via 9Now.

Queensland's era of State of Origin dominance has well and truly come to an end, with New South Wales asserting authority in recent years.

The Maroons had won 11 out of 12 series between 2006 and 2017, but the Blues have struck back winning 3 of the last 4, including last year where they outscored their northern rivals 76–6 in the first 2 games of the series.

What time is State of Origin kick-off?

The opening Origin game kicks off at 8:10pm AEST on Wednesday 8 June at Accor Stadium in Sydney.

State of Origin game 1 2022 preview

New South Wales head into this series without 2 of their stars from last year in Latrell Mitchell and Tom Trbojevic. The spine is almost identical though, and coming off last year's dominant performance in the opening 2 games, that would give them plenty of confidence.

One surprise was the omission of Josh Addo-Carr, who has scored 10 tries from 12 matches for the Blues over the journey.

State of Origin

Billy Slater is guiding Queensland this year and he has picked 4 debutants for the 2022 series.

History tells us the team who wins game 1 is in great shape, with the opening winner going on to claim 30 of the 40 Origin series. With Queensland hosting the decider they'd see this is as a big opportunity, but NSW still appear to hold the edge and we think they'll take first blood.
