Update: The Springboks are one win away from the Rugby World Cup final after beating Japan. South Africa now versus Wales 27 October.
South Africa enter the Rugby World Cup as the smokey that many pundits have started to talk about. Referring to the team ranked number four in the world as a long shot is rather humorous, but one thing that isn't a laughing matter is the strength of the side. The Springboks are genuine contenders to win the Webb Ellis Cup for a third time.

Although it will officially be the third fixture of the tournament, South Africa vs New Zealand is the real opener of the competition. Fans will get a first look at two of the tournament's heavyweights competing against each other on Saturday 21 September at 7:45pm AEST. It will also likely determine who finishes on top of Pool B.
Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus undertook several restructures of the organisation when he took over. His appointment has coincided with a climb up the world rankings which stems from a new reinvigorated style of play.
Captain of the side is Siya Kolisi, who made history when he became the first black South African skipper. Quite a long way for the Springboks to have come, since they were excluded from the 1987 and 1991 Rugby World Cups because of apartheid.
With plenty of strike power across the park, the Boks should fare very well in Japan, especially if they can finish top in their pool and avoid a quarter-final match-up with new world number one Ireland.
All of South Africa's 2019 Rugby World Cup action will be live and exclusive to both Foxtel and Kayo Sports.
