South Sydney will be hoping for a repeat of their shock qualifying final win over Penrith in Sunday's NRL grand final.

South Sydney supporters will be praying coach Wayne Bennett can pull off a masterclass similar to that which saw the Rabbitohs stun grand final rivals Penrith in the second qualifying final in September.

Bennett's team had not beaten the Panthers from 2 attempts in 2021 before knocking them off in the qualifying final. The teams meet again in the grand final after Penrith went the long way round to the NRL's ultimate game.

The Panthers enjoyed a gutsy win against the Melbourne Storm last weekend and are ready to get revenge come Sunday.

When is Penrith vs South Sydney NRL grand final?

If it all goes ahead as planned, this match kicks off at 7:30pm AEDT on Sunday 3 October at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. There remains some doubt about the match, which has already been reduced to 75% capacity in the stadium.

Who will win 2021 NRL grand final Panthers vs Rabbitohs?

The Rabbitohs will enter the match with enormous confidence on the back of defeating the Panthers earlier in the finals. Before that 16-10 win, they'd suffered defeats to Penrith in round 11 (12-56) and round 23 (25-12).

It appears the Panthers have learnt from that qualifying final loss to Souths. They've bustled and hassled and grinded their way to this grand final with a steely defence and an obvious will to win. Their desperate defensive effort against Melbourne in the preliminary final was the stuff of legend.

Bennett has named the same 17 Rabbitohs that defeated Manly a week ago and will again want a smart, disciplined game if his charges are to end his time at the club with a fairytale.

Up until the Origin interruption, the Panthers looked every bit the best side in the competition and glimpses of that form looked to be back during last week's win over Melbourne. Still, they've had to go the long way and were obviously tired in the last 10 minutes of that epic battle. That fatigue will play into Souths' hands but will it be enough?

We think not. Souths will no doubt give the premiership a great shake – with Bennett at the helm anything is possible – but we're tipping a Penrith premiership to end an epic 2021 NRL season.
