Essendon are well within reach of the top 8 and North Melbourne are coming off a huge upset win ahead of their round 18 showdown.

SUMMARY: Kangaroos vs Bombers is exclusive to Fox Footy. Unless you're already a Foxtel customer, your best option is to watch live on Kayo Sports. You can watch for free using this 14-day trial.

The Bombers have endured a sub-par season in 2021, picking up 7 wins from their 16 matches to date. Flashes of potential have been coupled with some less than impressive displays. Yet with 6 matches remaining, they are just 1 win outside the top 8, so all is far from lost.

North Melbourne stumbled through a winless first 8 rounds of the campaign. But they are showing some improvement in the run home, including a massive upset triumph over the Eagles in Perth last time out. It sets up an intriguing showdown between these clubs.

Who will win North vs Essendon?

Roos vs Bombers - Finals fizzers

Essendon and North Melbourne were AFL giants in the 90s, picking up 2 flags apiece among a swag of finals appearances. But it has all gone sour over the past couple of decades, with only flashes of real competitiveness from these proud outfits.

The Bombers will be the favourites here after their commanding victory over Adelaide last weekend, holding the Crows to 2.9 (21), their lowest ever score. Essendon have a strong percentage and sit just a sole victory behind seventh-placed Fremantle and the eighth-placed West Coast Eagles in a tight finals race.

The Kangaroos were drifting through a terrible season under first-year coach Mark Noble. But they have won 2 of their past 3 matches, capped by that stunning upset victory over West Coast in Perth that no one saw coming. This could be an open, entertaining encounter. We're leaning slightly towards the Bombers, who have that bit more on the line.
