The Newcastle Knights host the Bulldogs in the first Friday night match of the 2021 NRL season.

SUMMARY: Knights vs Bulldogs is exclusive to Fox League. If you're an existing Foxtel customer you're all set, otherwise your best option is to watch on Kayo Sports. Watch for free using this 14-day trial. This gets you access to all its unique features and 50 additional live sports.

The Knights go into this match coming off a loss to premiers Melbourne in a trial match and without their star fullback Kalyn Ponga (shoulder). Tex Hoy replaces him.

The Novocastrians have red and blue blood running through their veins but are fed up with the inconsistent performances dished up last year. Under much-maligned halfback Mitchell Pearce and second-year head coach Adam O'Brien, it's now time to deliver.

Canterbury only avoided the wooden spoon last year thanks to a superior points differential to the Broncos. In their recent trial match they pulled off a come-from-behind victory against Cronulla. It appears the only way is up for new coach Trent Barrett but he will still be under pressure to lift the Bulldogs near the top eight.

When is Newcastle Knights vs Canterbury Bulldogs?

This match kicks off at 6pm AEDT on Friday 12 March at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle.

Who will win Knights vs Bulldogs?

We're expecting this to be a fiercely fought encounter between a Knights side missing some key players and a Bulldogs team with a new playmaker in Kyle Flanagan and new coach in Barrett.

The Knights are more settled, despite missing Ponga, and Pearce will be determined to make amends for his pre-season from hell when he was embroiled in a sexting scandal and stripped of the club captaincy. Pearce has re-signed with Newcastle until 2022 and will want to have a mammoth year. New recruit Tyson Frizell will add plenty of punch to the Knights' attack.

The Bulldogs will still be working on their combinations and the jury is out on whether Flanagan has what it takes to be a chief playmaker in the NRL. They have won eight of their past nine games against the Knights but we'll still tip the home side by four points.
