Melbourne Victory vs Western United match preview

Western United beat Melbourne Victory 1-0 earlier in the season, with A-League veteran, United's Nikolai Topor-Stanley, sent off.

But when this match took place, it was under a dark atmosphere.

It occurred in the shadow of the horrendous scenes when Victory fans stormed the pitch in the game prior.

Both teams have struggled since then, with the Victory sliding to the bottom of the ladder and mostly occupying that slot since.

United have fared a little better, managing to claw their way out of the danger zone at the bottom. However, things are so tight that 1 loss could put them right back there.

This is Victory's fourth derby game in a row, so they will find themselves having to lift again for another big match.

Western United have a lot to play for because if they lose too many more games, they will miss out on the finals race for this season.

United will also be buoyed by the news that coach John Aloisi has just signed a 2-year contract extension.

We think both those motivations will be enough to get United over the line in this match.
