Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) is an American police procedural show that covers the investigation and legal proceedings following a criminal arrest. The show is set in New York City and the crimes are based on real-life crimes and criminals, often taken from modern day news headlines. The show has been running for well over 20 seasons and is among the longest-running scripted US prime time TV series on a major broadcast network.

SVU starred Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler and Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson for the first 12 seasons before Meloni left the show. Benson is still the main detective in SVU, and many episodes focus on how the job affects her life and mentality after working on such serious cases for so many years.
