Typical AFL powerhouses Hawthorn and Collingwood meet at the MCG at the back end of long seasons for both clubs.

SUMMARY: Hawks vs Magpies is exclusive to Fox Footy, there is no free-to-air coverage anywhere in Australia. Unless you're already a Foxtel customer, your best option is to watch live on Kayo Sports. You can watch for free using this 14-day trial.

Hawthorn vs Collingwood is a match-up of clubs that have both been enduring long seasons. The Hawks sit second-last and have endured a pitiful season, the worst of it coming in the last month with the sacking of 4-time premiership coach Alastair Clarkson.

The Pies also bid goodbye to their long-term coach and favourite son Nathan Buckley midway through the season after deciding he was not the man to lead them into the future. They've looked better on-field under Robert Harvey in recent weeks but, like their Hawthorn counterparts, Collingwood people will be glad to see the end of 2021.

When is Hawthorn vs Collingwood?

This game was initially scheduled to be played in Tasmania but has been moved to Melbourne after Victoria entered its sixth pandemic-inspired lockdown. The opening bounce is at 2:10pm AEST at the MCG on Sunday 8 August.

Who will win Hawthorn vs Collingwood?

Hawthorn have dominated the Pies in recent years, winning 12 of the 14 games between the clubs since 2012.

The move of the match from Tasmania, a place Collingwood might need directions to having not played there in living memory, to the MCG takes away any advantage the Hawks had.

Both teams had impressive wins last round – the Hawks upsetting Brisbane and Collingwood doing the same to West Coast – and will be hoping to continue winning as their seasons draw to a close. Fans of either team would probably rather the wins end now, ensuring the earliest possible draft picks come their way, bringing at least some hope as they look towards new eras beginning in 2022.

The answer of who wins this match depends on how you define what a win is: a somewhat meaningless 4 points or a solid draft hand to play with in the off-season. Either way, a winner may not emerge until long after this game and this season comes to an end.
