GWS need to break an MCG duck against Hawthorn on Sunday to keep their finals hopes alive.

SUMMARY: Giants vs Hawks is on Channel 7 in NSW and the ACT. Everywhere else in the country you need access to Fox Footy. Unless you're already a Foxtel customer, your best option is to watch live on Kayo Sports. You can watch for free using this 14-day trial.

GWS vs Hawthorn takes the Giants back to the MCG for only the second time since the club's humiliating grand final thrashing from Richmond in 2019. GWS need to continue winning to keep their 2021 finals prospects firmly alive.

In their last trip out at the MCG, the Giants scored an impressive 30-point win over Collingwood. It was just their fifth win out of 21 starts at the ground.

Hawthorn have named a debutant for the third consecutive game, selecting highly rated West Australian youngster Denver Grainger-Barras. The Hawks took him with pick 6 in last year's draft.

While it's game 1 for 19-year-old Grainger-Barrass, his 38-year-old teammate Shaun Burgoyne will become just the fifth player in VFL/AFL history to play 399 games. To give that some context, the Giants are playing game 218 in their history.

GWS vs Hawthorn start time

The opening bounce is at 1:10pm AEST at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday 27 June.

Giants vs Hawks match preview

How the Hawks would love to go back to the days when they dined on the Giants for fun. Hawthorn won the first 3 outings between the teams by an average of 84 points. GWS have slowly worked towards squaring the ledger though and after 10 games the record sits at 5 wins to the Hawks, 4 to GWS and 1 draw.

The Giants have never beaten Hawthorn at the MCG but the 2021 Hawks aren't a shadow on Hawthorn teams of recent years. There's just too much on the line for GWS in this match.

That includes finals and at least external pressure on coach Leon Cameron to get the best out of his talented list. The Giants by 30.
