Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway in her parent’s home upstate. At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.

When a young black man visits his white girlfriend's family estate, his blind introduction to Ma and Pa Armitage goes about as awkwardly as possible. Though he's seemingly welcomed with open arms, Chris can't help but notice the peculiar actions and demeanour of "the help" in this place, all of whom are black. Even more troubling, Mrs Armitage, a renown shrink who is adept at hypnotherapy, becomes quite insistent about having her potential son-in-law sit down for a session. When he agrees out of politeness, what follows is a couples weekend from Hell.
