The 2016 European Football Championship is underway in France. Here's how to watch the competition online.

With the best national teams across Europe competing for glory in the Euro 2016 championship, the 2016/17 football season is officially underway. While Optus has staked its claim for football viewers with the English Premier League (EPL) by offering a wide range of options to watch that competition online, the Euro 2016 tournament isn't part of Optus' package.

Instead, local Pay TV channel beIN Sports has the exclusive rights to the Euro 2016 competition.

Euro 2016: How to watch on your TV

BeIN Sports is available as a subscription channel for Foxtel customers on the Sports package, with prices starting at $61 a month on a 12 month contract. As with any Foxtel subscription, you can then stream beIN Sports and the Euro 2016 competition on any compatible device using the Foxtel Go app.

If you'd like the selection of Foxtel's channel lineup without the need for installation of a set-top box, you can access beIN Sports through Foxtel Play (now known as Foxtel Now) on compatible TVs and game consoles. This option doesn't include any lock in contracts, and also enables you to stream the service via portable phone and tablets as well.

Fetch TV also offers the beIN Sports channel for $14.95 a month for existing Fetch customers with the Entertainment pack.

Euro 2016: How to watch on the go

Sometimes, watching sports on the go is much more convenient than the big screen experience. While a Foxtel or Fetch TV subscription offers a mobile stream in addition to the big screen box, if you want on the go action exclusively there are a couple of options.

Foxtel Play, combined with the sports package, can make a good option for customers wanting both the Euro 2016 competition and a more complete entertainment selection.

For those who exclusively want beIN Sports for the competition though, the sports channel offers the beIN Sports connect streaming only package that offers every match from Euro 2016, plus all of beIN Sports' other sports offerings. At $16.99 a month with no lock in contract, it's the most affordable way to stream the Euro 2016 competition. beIN Sports Connect has apps for both iOS and Android.

Can I stream Euro 2016 in High Definition?

If you want to watch matches in high definition, you'll need to sign up for either Fetch TV or a full Foxtel subscription, as all of beIN Sports' other streaming options are limited to SD quality. Foxtel customers watching the Euro 2016 competition using the Foxtel Go app will only get SD quality as well.

Make sure you're supporting your team with all the best Euro 2016 merchandise.
