The progenitor of countless crime spinoffs still does it best after all these years.

Fair warning before you binge-watch this incredibly entertaining police procedural: don't take the scientific processes in CSI as gospel. Because while the writers of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation are adept at mixing deduction and character-driven drama, word on the street is that the success rate and glamour of the actual job have been massaged a great deal.

All that said, what an intoxicating fantasy we have here. The vast majority of CSI episodes have the power to effortlessly draw one in as a devoted group of Sin City forensic specialists try and solve yet another head-scratcher. Interestingly, and à la Dick Wolf's Law & Order series, the good guys are divided into an investigating team and an (aptly named) graveyard shift crew. And it has to be said that, as the series goes on, it's a pleasure to watch your favourite characters, many of them complex and flawed in interesting ways, rise up through the ranks to inherit the mantle of said teams.
