The more active you are during your Stayz stay, the less you'll have to pay.

Holiday rental home booking site Stayz has today launched its StayzFit initiative to encourage holidaymakers to keep active while they're away by offering an attractive incentive: discounts on your Stayz stay.

The discounts work on a sliding scale and increase according to how active you are or, more specifically, how many steps you clock up during your stay. Fitbit trackers are given to guests upon arrival to monitor their activity and participants work in pairs to achieve a combined step goal.

To unlock your first discount of 10% off, you'll need to clock up at least 30,000 combined steps. The next tier is 20% off, which requires 50,000 combined steps. There is a maximum of 120,000 steps to achieve, which will unlock the ultimate prize: your stay absolutely free. That's right, you can exercise your way to free accommodation.

Naturally, there are a few conditions that need to be met to achieve this ultimate incentive.

Firstly, all accommodation must be booked and paid for in full prior to arrival. You have over 40,000 properties to choose from, including the luxury homesteads of Desiderata in the Kangaroo Valley (NSW, pictured), The Ultimate Family Entertainer at the Gold Coast (QLD), Cornwallis House at the Hawkesbury River (NSW), A Symphony of Sun & Sea in Rye (VIC), The Sanctuary in Deep Creek (SA) and Asrama in Broome (WA).

Secondly, this promotion is only for stays that take place between 10 and 24 April 2017, which falls during the school holidays and includes the Easter long weekend.

Lastly, for anyone thinking they can hit that 120,000-step mark by slowly chipping away at it over the full term of the promotion, think again. The discount is applicable for two guests who reach the specified step goal over one night/two days.

All participating properties offer a range of activities to help you reach your step goal. These include close proximity to a national park, on-site gyms, sizable properties and the availability of swimming pools.

Considering that a reasonable estimate of an adult's daily activity is 10,000 steps, so long as both of you are active to that extent over the two days, you could very much clock up 40,000 combined steps and get 10% off your stay.

For those of you wishing to walk your way to a better bargain, here's the full breakdown of steps to take for each discount:

Combined steps achievedDiscount received
30,00010%

70,00040%
80,00050%

If you've missed booking a room in a StayzFit rental over Easter, there are plenty of Easter accommodation deals and discounts that you can snap up anyway and you won't have to walk to nab these discounts either.
