Vodafone boosts unlimited plans with more bonus data
Get up to 20GB of bonus data on Vodafone's freshly launched unlimited plans.
Vodafone only announced its "unlimited" plans yesterday, but it's already tinkering with its data formula for those plans, launching with a bonus data allocation on top of that already announced. While that won't make a practical change for anyone wanting to sign up on those plans, because they only went live today, it does signal quite how seriously Vodafone wants to win this particular data war.
The $60 Unlimited tier now comes with 10GB bonus data, bringing it up to 40GB. That's the same quantity of bonus data you'll see on the $80 plan, which will come with 70GB of full speed data. At the top $100 tier there's an even bigger bonus, with 20GB of additional data, for a total of 120GB of full-speed data.
If you're wondering why an "unlimited" plan needs data quotas, it's because Vodafone is offering unlimited data, but not always at full speed. Your quota is supplied to you the same as it would be on a data-limited plan, but once that's exhausted, you're limited to just 1.5Mbps downstream for the rest of your billing month. Here's what you get with Vodafone's Unlimited plans now:
Vodafone Unlimited plan name | Monthly cost | Included data | Minimum 12-month cost | Included extras |
---|---|---|---|---|
Unlimited $60 | $60 | 30GB+10GB bonus data | $720 | 2,000 international minutes to Zone 1 countries, 200 minutes to Zone 2 countries, 5,000 Qantas points |
Unlimited $80 | $80 | 60GB+10GB bonus data | $960 | 3,000 international minutes to Zone 1 countries, 300 minutes to Zone 2 countries, 7,500 Qantas points |
Unlimited $100 | $100 | 100GB+20GB bonus data | $1,200 | 4,000 international minutes to Zone 1 countries, 400 minutes to Zone 2 countries, 10,000 Qantas points |
Vodafone rival Telstra also announced its unlimited plans yesterday, although unlike Vodafone, it's limiting its unlimited plan SIMs for use in smartphones only, where Vodafone has stated it's happy for them to be used in tablets, hotspots and other mobile devices.
