Customising a T-shirt is nowhere near as difficult, time-consuming, or expensive as it was a decade or two ago. This is owing to significant advances in the field of digital printing. These days, all you need is access to an internet-enabled computer or smartphone and an image or idea for your shirt, and you're good to go.
Finalising your design is the obvious first step if you wish to customise a T-shirt. If you’re designing a shirt for personal use, you can choose just about any design you like, including photos, sketches, paintings, and textual content. In such instances, you can choose to go for a funny, dramatic, minimalistic or artistic theme. If you’re thinking about customising T-shirts to promote your business, focus on aspects like clarity, visibility, and catchiness. In many instances, keeping it simple is the best approach to take.
Access to software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator enables you to tweak your imagery and play with aspects like contrast, brightness, colours, and a host of other effects. Such software also allows you to add text to images.
Once you have the design sorted, you can turn to a professional customised T-shirt provider like Vistaprint to get your own customised T-shirt. If you plan to order multiple T-shirts for your business, consider ordering a prototype before you place a large order so you know just what your design looks like.
finder.com.au can help you find the right kind of customisable T-shirts on the Vistaprint website, informing you of your options and taking you through the entire process step by step. The first thing you need to know is that Vistaprint offers customisable T-shirts for men, women, and kids, and these T-shirts are available in various sizes, colours and designs. In short, Vistaprint provides three style options to choose from: SignatureSoft, basic and long sleeve.
- SignatureSoft. The SignatureSoft line uses 100% ring-spun combed cotton and sells only in white. The existing price for one T-shirt is under $20, though if you want reverse printing, you'll have to pay around $6 more. This fashion-fit T-shirt is the softest you can find on the Vistaprint website. It comes with double-needle stitching on the bottom hem and sleeve, plus it also incorporates shoulder-to-shoulder tape.
- Basic and long sleeve. Both these tees use Gildan 5000 cotton and feature seamless colours, double-needle hems and sleeves, and shoulder to shoulder tape. The basic tees come in white, black and grey while the long-sleeve shirts sell in black and white only. All black and white T-shirts are 100* pre-shrunk and use open-ended carded cotton while grey shirts use 99% cotton. The price mark differs according to your colour and type, so for white basics you'll pay approx. $16, grey basics are an extra $3.50, and black basics are an extra $9. Long sleeve shirts start at $33 and both charge extra for reverse printing.
- Other options. You can find basic and Nickelodeon collection T-shirts for kids on the Vistaprint website selling for around $14 each. Kids’ T-shirts are available only in white and use 100% pre-shrunk cotton. Also available are 100% ring-spun cotton customisable men's and women's polo shirts.
