Roll up your sleeves because COVID-19 vaccine incentives are on their way.

In case you needed another reason to get your COVID-19 shot, Virgin Australia is offering free Business Class flights and millions of Velocity Frequent Flyer Points to Aussies who get the jab.

Its "VA-X & Win" competition opens up to Australian residents when all adults become eligible for vaccination.

A Virgin Australia group spokesperson said, "For simply rolling up your sleeve and getting a COVID-19 vaccination, you could walk away with a share in tens of thousands of dollars of Virgin Australia and Velocity Frequent Flyer prizes or be the lucky one to become a Velocity Points millionaire."

You need to be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member to be eligible and you can register here.

What prizes is Virgin Australia offering?

For the moment, we know that prizes in the "VA-X & Win" competition include dozens of Business Class flights and that one very lucky person will win one million Velocity Frequent Flyer points.

Virgin Australia has said that a person with that many Velocity points could fly around Australia seven times through each capital city. Points will also be redeemable for international trips with partner airlines once the international border reopens.

Here are a few examples of how you could spend one million points overseas:

  • Brisbane to Honolulu for 42,000 points
  • Sydney to Los Angeles for 44,800 points
  • Melbourne to Abu Dhabi for 56,000 points
  • Sydney to London (via Hong Kong) for 59,800 points

Virgin hinted that more prizes will be announced when the competition is expected to kick off later this year.

What is rival Qantas doing?

In June 2021, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce told Nine's Today Show his company's plans to incentivise Aussies to get vaccinated.

Some of the promotions he hinted at included discounts, bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points and prizes like free flights for a year.

Joyce told Today, "We're going to offer 10 'mega-prizes', at least one for each state and territory, where you will get for a year, for a family of four, unlimited economy class travel on the Qantas and Jetstar network".

Joyce also announced that Accor would offer one million points to winners through its rewards program that can be used to book accommodation.

Qantas's incentive program is expected to launch in July.
