Roll up your sleeves because Virgin's COVID-19 vaccine incentive has arrived.

Virgin Australia's 'VA-X & Win' competition (first announced in June) opens up today to Australian residents who have been vaccinated.

Virgin Australia Group CEO and Managing Director, Jayne Hrdlicka said "Vaccination is our way back to the things we love and the people we miss, and most importantly, it's the only way we can protect the lives and livelihoods of all Australians.

"We are all in this together and the sooner we are vaccinated to the thresholds required by government, the sooner we can return to a quality way of life that includes travelling freely within our own country and abroad."

What prizes is Virgin Australia offering?

Prizes in the "VA-X & Win" competition include dozens of Business Class flights, Lounge memberships, Virgin Australia PJs and one very lucky person will win one million Velocity Frequent Flyer points.

Virgin Australia has said that a person with that many Velocity points could fly around Australia seven times through each capital city. Points will also be redeemable for international trips with partner airlines once the international border reopens.

Here are a few examples of how you could spend one million points overseas:

  • Brisbane to Honolulu for 42,000 points
  • Sydney to Los Angeles for 44,800 points
  • Melbourne to Abu Dhabi for 56,000 points
  • Sydney to London (via Hong Kong) for 59,800 points

How to enter the VA-X & Win competition in 3 steps

  1. Receive both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
  2. Head to virginaustralia.com/vaxandwin
  3. Enter your name, email address and Velocity Frequent Flyer member number in the entry fields by midnight 31 December 2021.

The lucky winners will be notified by Virgin Australia by 13 January 2022 and be required to provide proof of vaccination.

What is rival Qantas doing?

Qantas is also offering rewards to those who get vaccinated and went live with its offer on 24 August.

It's offering vaccinated Aussies a choice between:

  • 1,000 Qantas Points
  • 15 Status Credits
  • A $20 discount for a Qantas or Jetstar flight

It will also enter customers who claim a reward into a competition. Finder's resident points expert Angus Kidman has already broken down which Qantas reward has the best value and compared Qantas and Virgin's offerings to see how they stack up.
