Virgin Australia and Qantas simultaneously drop a Perth sale
Fares start at $169 each way. So, who's doing it better?

There's something about Western Australia right now that has Australia's full-service airlines dropping the dollars on seats to its capital. Virgin Australia started it earlier this week when it released its "Just another day in WA" sale, which features flights to Perth for either $169 or $189 each way depending on your travel dates.
Now, Qantas is trying to steal Virgin Australia's thunder with sale fares to various Western Australian cities, including Perth, from $179 each way.
When it comes to price, the clear winner is Virgin Australia. Its $169 fares are actually for the same routes (departing Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne) on the same dates (2 May to 26 June 2018) as these $179 Qantas fares. Virgin also has $169 flights on journeys from 2-28 February 2018 where Qantas was only willing to go down to $185.
As for those Virgin Australia $189 fares? Those are for travel during the more peak periods of October-December and January-February. Again, they come out cheaper than the Qantas alternative, which starts at $209.
This is not to say that the flights from Qantas have no merits. Where the flying kangaroo shines in this sale is in its wide network. Alongside flights from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, Qantas is also offering sale flights to Perth from Adelaide (from $179), Broome (from $205), Cairns (from $229), Exmouth (from $159), Geraldton (from $119), Port Hedland (from $209), Gold Coast (from $229) Gladstone (from $265), Sunshine Coast (from $269), Canberra (from $279) and more.
Also, let's not forget about loyalty. With it only costing $10 more when departing from Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne, it could be worth it to shell out the extra tenner to rack up your Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Of course, if you're a Virgin Velocity card holder, then Virgin is the winner here.
Travel dates on sale for both airlines are relatively the same, being from 17 October - 26 June excluding school and peak Christmas holiday dates.
Both sales end midnight 6 September 2017. These Virgin Australia flights can be booked direct here while the Qantas flights can be purchased through Flight Centre.
