View Finder: Stranger Things Series 2, Transparent, Narcos

All the latest news from streaming services, plus the pick of new shows this weekend.

Stranger Things Series 2 confirmed

Netflix's 80s-themed horror series Stranger Things has arguably been the streaming hit of 2016, so it's no surprise that the cast and crew are returning for another go. Series 2 will appear in 2017 with nine new episodes (one more than this year). No official date as yet, but it seems likely to be the second half of the year. For now, check out the trailer and learn the titles of all nine episodes:

Also: Winona forever.

When is Transparent season 3 coming to Stan?

Emmy-winning Amazon Prime transgender-themed comedy Transparent can't show on Amazon Prime in Australia, because we don't have it, so Stan gets the prize. Series 3 will debut on 23 September, with all episodes available. That's effectively day-and-date with its US appearance, which is a big improvement on previous years.

Discounted footy viewing for the grand finals

As we noted earlier this week, if you sign up for an eligible Telstra contract, tablet or prepaid plan, you'll be able to watch both the NRL and AFL grand final live on your mobile, and it won't even count against your data allowance. Check our original report to see which plans are eligible.

Key new shows and movies this weekend

Looking for something new on streaming services this weekend? Series 2 of Colombian drug crime drama Narcos arrives on Netflix on 2 September, with all 10 episodes dropping immediately. If that's not enough violence for you, seasons 1-5 of motorbike thug frenzy Sons of Anarchy has just appeared. And if all that's too much violence, seasons 1-5 of modern Australian drama classic Offspring have also become available.

Presto has a solid new block of US drama, with every episode of legal drama The Good Wife now available and David Duchovny-displaying Californication on offer. For a nostalgia boost, Napoleon Dynamite also shows up. Stan has also rounded out its The Good Wife collection, so Julianna Margulies fans are sorted on multiple services.
