View Finder: Sherlock, Gilmore Girls, No Activity
All the latest news from streaming and TV, plus the pick of new shows this weekend.
Sherlock gets a date
We have a fully-confirmed official launch date for the next series of Sherlock: 1 January 2017. The first episode title is the already-revealed "The Six Thatchers", which appears to be a play on the original Conan Doyle story "The Six Napoleons". Stan has the local exclusive streaming rights for the series.
Gilmore Girls trailer
Netflix continues to build the momentum for its Gilmore Girls revival, A Year In The Life, with a full trailer for the four episodes appearing:
Earlier this month we saw the cast reminiscing about the original series. The show returns on 25 November.
Doctor Who: The Power Of The Daleks cinema screenings
Last month we told you about how the BBC had commissioned a new animated version of Second Doctor Patrick Troughton's first ever Doctor Who adventure, The Power Of The Daleks. Good news for Who obsessives (like me) - there will be cinema showings of the new version around the country from 12 November. Check this list to find your nearest cinema. (And yes, I'm sure this will end up on a streaming service eventually, though by then I will already own the DVD, because I am a complete Who tragic.)
Key new shows and movies this weekend
Netflix is having an uncharacteristically quiet weekend. Its only debuting series is the first season of kids' animation Skylanders Academy, based on the popular Activision game, which pops up on Friday 28 November. Here's a trailer:
If you're looking for some pre-Halloween horror fun, I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House also debuts Friday 28 November on Netflix. Presto offers up Freddy Vs Jason on the same date.
Technically, series 2 of No Activity on Stan isn't new this weekend, since it came out yesterday, but we would never pass up an opportunity to completely recommend this series. Have at it.
