Vaya’s 12 month plans cut prices but require upfront payment

Vaya’s getting ever more aggressive with its plan pricing, offering very low-cost month-to-month and brand-new 12-month contract plans.

Vaya has been on something of a price war tear of late, ever since the announcement of its acquisition by amaysim. One of its first salvos in that war was its aggressive Price Beat Guarantee, which will price match and provide a free month’s access if you can find a cheaper deal. That guarantee is still in place, although as we noted when it launched, it only applies to SIM-only bundles that are not viewed by Vaya as "promotional" prices.

That being said, Vaya’s pricing has long been quite competitive, and its shift in pricing today only extends that positioning. Vaya’s dropped most of its "Power" plan tiers except the lowest $18 per month option which comes with 1GB of data. For the first three months as part of a promotional deal, that plan will cost only $15.

For its Unlimited plans, the new version of the Unlimited S plan comes with unlimited talk, text and 1GB of data for only $16 per month. That’s very cheap indeed if you’re a heavy caller or text fanatic with low data needs. Moving up the tiers adds data and price across all tiers, although the higher-priced deals also get the same promotional $3 off for three months offer, which doesn’t apply to the Unlimited S plan.

Vaya has also unveiled new 12-month plans. These drop the monthly price of applied plans quite sharply, so the effective price of the Unlimited S plan drops to a very affordable $14 per month.

The one caveat here is that while these are post-paid plans, so additional usage could incur extra fees, Vaya’s structure for them calls for payment of the full 12-month minimum upfront. You could pay even more than that over the life of the plan, but you’ve got to be willing to cough up the minimum as soon as you sign on the dotted line.

Update: Vaya has discontinued its 12-month plans, offering only 1- and 6-month SIM-only plans. You can compare these below:
