Step into the new year in style with this collection of colourful kicks.
There's nothing quite like the new year to inspire fresh ideas from designers and it seems the Lunar New Year celebration is particularly influential this time around. Already we've seen MAC announce a Lunar New Year collection of its own to celebrate the Chinese festival. Now streetwear brand Vans is teaming up with Chinese label Purlicue to welcome in 2019 with a killer range of sneakers.
The exclusive footwear line, aptly called Year of the Pig, comes in quick succession after Vans dropped another collection of holiday shoes for the festive season. Despite the traditional Chinese Year of the Pig greeting of "The Fat Year", which is emblazoned on the waffle outsoles of the new designs, the collection's slogan is "Laid Back, Not Lazy". This is likely a nod to the range of activities the Vans brand associates itself with such as skateboarding and surfing.
The partnership with Purlicue features four reissues of Vans signature Era and Sk8-Hi styles. The Era styles come in two new colourways, one in white with red outsoles and the other pink with black. The standouts, though, are the Sk8-Hi iterations which see a reversal of the colour schemes for the Eras. The Sk8-His also sport an enhanced side stripe. All four styles feature canvas and suede uppers, tonal laces and the iconic Vans "Off The Wall" heel tab.

When and where to buy the collection
The Chinese New Year is celebrated at the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. For 2019, The Year of the Pig begins on 5 February. In anticipation of this, the collaboration will drop around the globe at the beginning of January.
You'll be able to shop the line both online and in selected Vans and partner stores. As the Eras usually retail for $109.99 and the Sk8-His for around $139.99, we can expect to see a similar price range when they drop in Australian stores, so make sure to set aside some of your Christmas cash for these hot new designs.
