Get a closer look at the artsy collaboration that drops at the end of the week.
From David Bowie to Harry Potter, cult-favourite streetwear brand Vans is known for releasing some pretty iconic collections. Now, the label's latest muse takes the form of famous Mexican surrealist painter Frida Kahlo for a truly unique collection that is set to be released in just three days' time on 29 June.
Dropping both in-store and online at Incu and Above The Clouds, The Frida Kahlo collection will see popular Vans sneaker silhouettes reimagined in prints both immediately recognisable and lesser known by the artist. For instance, the ever-popular Vans Sk8-Hi model features Frida's self-portrait Las Dos Fridas across its profile along with a forest green colourway running from tongue to toecap.
The Vans Authentic shoe meanwhile draws inspiration from Frida's 1954 watermelon painting titled Viva La Vida. The most eye-catching design from the collection, though, comes in the form of the Slip-On silhouette. The sneakers showcase one of Frida's most famous artworks – her self-portrait titled Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird.

Each sneaker design will come in LX form, meaning that they will be made from premium materials. Each pair will also feature a vulcanised sole and leather-cushioned heel liner for ultimate comfort.
While definitely unique, the Frida Kahlo collection isn't the first time that the Vans brand has used its merchandise to celebrate art. The label previously released a Van Gogh capsule featuring pieces inspired by the artist's infamous paintings around the same time last year. Does this mean that we'll be seeing more art-inspired pieces from Vans in the future? We certainly hope so.
