Vancouver flights from $814 return
Summer flights to Canada are heating up.Flights to Vancouver have been given the chop by a handful of China-based airlines: XiamenAir, Air China and China Southern.
Airfares have dropped as low as $814 return for shoulder season dates and from $1,063 for peak-season dates.
Sample fares include Melbourne to Vancouver from $814 return, Sydney to Vancouver from $831 return and Brisbane to Vancouver from $920 return.
Most are for shoulder season dates between April and June 2018, though if you're lucky enough to live in Perth, you can catch those July and August summer fares which start from $1,063 return on China Southern.
All flights include layovers in the respective airlines' base countries. The good news is that if you're looking at a long layover with XiamenAir, you can potentially take advantage of its free overnight hotels offer, so long as your transit time is between 6 and 24 hours.

How good are these fares?
Last year, we saw summer flights to Vancouver on sale from $949 return with Philippine Airlines. At $100+ less than what's on sale here, it's no drop in the ocean though for the chance to fly with a 4-star airline like China Southern, the extra cost may be worth it for such a long haul journey.
For shoulder season, prices are also a tad overpriced, with last year's September-October flights under $800 return. There's not as much difference in cost here though, being around $20, or the sacrifice of a drink or two.
