The highly-anticipated face mask has been specially designed for athletes to wear while training.

With face masks on track to become the new norm, many shoppers are now looking for options that are both comfortable and accommodating to their lifestyle. Already ahead of the curve, mega sportswear brand Under Armour has revealed an innovative new face mask designed especially for athletes, and it's creating quite a stir.

Arriving in a reusable, water-resistant design, the mask has been designed to stay put even while you're training. To keep it in place, the mask features a bendable nose bridge that lies flat against the face, helping to increase air flow. The moldable design also helps to prevent glasses from fogging up, which will be welcome news for many consumers.

A V-shaped build meanwhile holds the mask away from the mouth to give the wearer more breathability, while fitted ear loops keep it close to the face.

What makes the mask really unique though is its 3-layer system, which features both an antimicrobial treatment and an open-cell foam that lets air in, while making it difficult for moisture and sweat to pass through.

While it has been in the works for quite some time, we now have some idea of a release date, with Under Armour confirming that the mask will be available in Australia from late August.

Each mask is set to retail for $40, which is pretty reasonable given that reusable masks cost $22.47 on average, even without all the bells and whistles that the sportsmask is offering.

The mask will also come in a range of sizes, from SM/MD to XL/XXL, making it easier for shoppers to find their ideal fit.

To be the first to know when the design launches, you can head to the Under Armour site to sign up for notifications.

The mask design comes after athletes across the world have found themselves restricted by mandatory mask regulations.

"We knew our athletes would need us to come through quickly with a solve to aid their return to training, one that would put health and safety first and adhere to current CDC guidelines," Under Armour VP of materials innovation Kyle Blakeley said in a statement announcing the mask.

"As soon as we finalised the design of our face mask for PPE, we dove straight into the innovation process of optimising a mask for performance."

While Under Armour is one of the first labels to create a sports-specific face mask, there are other exercise-friendly mask options out there.

Lightweight masks made from 100% cotton are typically the most breathable option, making them a top option for athletes. They are also easy to wash and can be used multiple times, making them a more sustainable mask option.
