If you're dealing with texture, congestion and a lack of radiance, the Ultra Smoothing range from Ultraceuticals is for you.
Why we love this product
As someone who went through a bad experience with adult acne, I have now been awarded a load of acne scarring on my cheeks and chin. While I am glad that the acne is under control, the scarring is still another issue in itself. I'm always on the hunt for something to refine my skin's texture and make it look smooth and pore-less. Lucky for me, I found it and it's the Ultraceuticals Ultra Smoothing Pore Refiner.
The quick verdict
Why is it good? It refines the skin's texture and improves the overall radiance and luminosity.
How much is it? $115 for 50mL
The Ultraceuticals Ultra Smoothing Pore Refiner works to smooth the skin's texture, reduce the appearance of large pores and improve the overall luminosity.
It's formulated with AHAs and BHAs – this includes ingredients like mandelic and salicylic acids, as well as citric and lactic acid. Skin is exfoliated and the dead skin cells are dissolved, leaving you with a smooth and pore-less base.
The product also contains refining agents like willow bark extract and niacinamide. These improve the skin's overall texture and luminosity.
At first, I was applying this serum at night before my moisturiser. Why? Because I thought the ingredients were too strong to wear during the day, exposed to the sunlight.
After using it for about a month, I was lucky enough to experience an Ultraceuticals facial at the David Jones Sydney City store. The experience was lovely and I got the chance to speak to one of the experienced skin technicians.
Her name was Jess and she advised me to start using the Ultra Smoothing Pore Refiner in the morning, rather than at night. As long as I pair it with a great daily sunscreen (and I use the one from Ultraceuticals), I should have no issues. Jess was right – I much prefer to use this serum in the morning. My skin has more time to absorb it, and it also helps my makeup look so much better.
You've got to keep using this serum on a regular basis to see results – it's not a magical overnight product. I've been using it every second morning for almost three months and I love the results.
My skin not only looks smooth and pore-less, but it feels like it too. Texture has improved immensely, I can no longer see my pores through my makeup and I am obsessed with how my skin now looks – I feel so much more confident.
Who is it suited for? People with normal, dry or oily skin. It's also free from parabens and synthetic fragrances.
Note: The images above do not display my personal results. These are from the Ultraceuticals website and you can see it here.
The Ultraceuticals Ultra Smoothing Pore Refiner isn't on the affordable side. It will set you back $115 for 50mL. I've been using it for the past two months and I've still got plenty of product left, so I believe it's one of those skincare products that can last you a long time if you use it sparingly. You get results for the price you pay, but you may be able to get a similar (not the same) effect with something cheaper.
