UberX is celebrating its launch in Adelaide with free rides
Trial UberX in Adelaide absolutely FREE.
On-demand car-hire service Uber officially launches in Adelaide at midday today. To coincide with this, it's giving passengers free rides across its UberX vehicles throughout Adelaide for an indefinite period of time.
This news follows a move by the South Australian Government to impose restrictions on drivers of ride-sharing service, after having given them the green light to operate from July 1. These restrictions included mandatory vehicle inspections every six-months and overhead costs in excess of $700, making it a more difficult and expensive process to get drivers on the road.
By offering free rides to South Australians, Uber hopes to encourage communities to embrace the service and prove that these excessive costs and processes are unwarranted.
Since its inception into the Australian market in 2012, Uber has grown to become an economical means of transport throughout Australia, connecting drivers with riders on-demand.
South Australia is the last major city on the Australian mainland to allow the service to operate.
To take advantage of the ride-share service, simply download the app on your phone, register for an account and request an UberX vehicle. Note that you must be 18+ in order to use the UberX. Minors must be accompanied by an adult during your ride.
Uber is currently encouraging drivers in Adelaide to sign-up to the service by providing incentive periods throughout Adelaide. Drivers who operate during these incentive periods can receive up to 75% of the gross fares earned. Full details can be found on th Uber site.
If you've missed out on the free ride, or are outside Adelaide, and would like to try the ridesharing service, first-time users are eligible for $20 credit with Uber.
